Journey through the remarkable story of Faith Assembly of God - from humble beginnings in 1983 to becoming a cornerstone of faith in Portmore, Jamaica.
Each milestone reveals God's faithfulness in guiding our church through seasons of growth, challenge, and transformation.
Faith Assembly of God was founded by Bishop Lascelles Richards in Passage Fort. This marked the beginning of a ministry that would touch countless lives and spread the Gospel throughout Jamaica.
The church moved to Portsmouth, facing a temporary decline in membership. Despite early challenges, the leadership remained committed to finding God's direction for a permanent home.
After much prayer and searching, suitable property was identified and purchased in Portmore Gardens. This would become the foundation for decades of ministry and community impact.
Strong community opposition led to legal bonds filed against church construction. Through determination and divine guidance, permission to build was eventually granted, demonstrating God's faithfulness in adversity.
When resistance persisted and services were suspended for three months, the church demonstrated resilience through tent meetings, showing unwavering faith and commitment to their calling.
A US-based group called Impact assisted in building the church's first permanent structure. Bishop Richards personally oversaw construction, along with a multi-purpose facility designed to generate income for the church.
Bishop Vincent Clarke assumed pastoral leadership after Bishop Richards left to establish a new church. This marked the beginning of an era of expansion and community impact.
Under Bishop Clarke's leadership, the church founded an early childhood institution and established the May Pen Assembly of God in Clarendon, extending ministry reach across Jamaica.
Bishop Clarke initiated plans for a new sanctuary despite initial concerns over costs. Through hard work and divine provision, the steel frame and roof were erected. Bishop Vernon Brackett served as Assistant Pastor during this period.
Bishop Vernon Brackett assumed leadership of Faith Assembly of God, embracing Bishop Clarke's vision and ensuring a seamless transition. His commitment to completing the sanctuary project became a defining moment.
Under Bishop Brackett's leadership, the church has undergone remarkable transformation with modern architecture accommodating up to 1,000 people. Comprehensive programs promote spiritual and physical development in the community.
